Bobby Pounds
Bobby
Pounds - Bobby began writing songs shortly after graduating
from the University of Texas in 1991. In 1995, after releasing
an independent album, he signed his first songwriting contract
with Perro Rojo Music, founded by Mike Daily and Tommy Foote
of George Strait's Ace in the Hole Band. In 1999, he was appointed
to the Board of Directors of the ASG. Also
in 1999, his song "I Get the Picture" took first place in the
Country Category of the USA Songwriting Competition, a worldwide
contest with over 31,000 entries. He was a staff writer for
NewKastle Entertainment - Nashville in 2000.

My
thoughts and thanks……..
Since joining the ASG during the S3 Conference in 1996, my songwriting
has drastically changed for the better. I think I was a good
writer prior to joining (that's like saying a peanut butter
sandwich is good before you put the jelly on it). But the ASG,
through its various events and seminars, opened my eyes to what
Nashville was looking for and what people like to hear in a
song. I'm sad to see the demise in country radio of the drinking,
cheating and leaving songs (whose titles still offer some of
the most memorable hooks I've ever heard) because I'm a traditionalist
and those songs are also about real life. But because of the
more Pop, uptempo, positive songs being cut today, it has challenged
me to write lyrics and melodies I've never tried before.
I have fond memories of the friendships and relationships that
have been established through my membership in the ASG. Thanks,
ASG, for featuring me and thanks to my co-writers who have set
aside their pride long enough to tolerate my perfectionist approach
to writing.
